Inbox Zero

Privacy, in plain language

Your inbox deserves care.

Connecting to Gmail

Inbox Zero connects to the Gmail account you choose through Google’s sign-in and authorization flow. It requests gmail.modify to list inbox mail, display subject, sender, date and snippet previews, and change read, importance and inbox/spam labels when you choose the corresponding action. This permission is broader than the actions the app implements. The app does not send emails or permanently delete messages.

Google Sign-In provides basic profile information. The app displays your connected email address and uses your Google account identifier (or email fallback) to separate local progress by account. Preview requests retrieve metadata: subject, sender, date, snippet, labels and List-Unsubscribe headers, rather than full message bodies.

Where mailbox data goes

Gmail requests go directly from your device to Google. This version has no developer-operated email processing backend and sends no mailbox content to a third-party AI service. Google processes authentication and Gmail requests under its own policies. Google Sign-In manages saved authorization credentials; the app does not ask for your Gmail password.

What stays on your device

Preview content stays in session memory. Gmail networking uses an ephemeral session without a response cache. Local importance feedback stores sender addresses, message identifiers and your importance choices. Account-scoped progress stores rescue counts and dates, review days, best sprint counts and recent reviewed message identifiers.

These local settings are not represented as encrypted storage; device backups may include them depending on platform behavior and your backup settings.

Your account controls

  • Sign out: leave the account while preserving local progress.
  • Disconnect Gmail: revoke the app’s authorization; consent again to reconnect.
  • Delete local data: remove the connected account’s local progress and sender feedback, clear session previews and undo state, without changing Gmail.

To delete retained data after signing out, reconnect the same account and use the deletion control. Removing the app also removes its local app data, subject to any platform backups.

Suggestions and sharing

Possible-spam and importance suggestions use explainable rules and your local feedback. Suggestions may be wrong. Only explicit mailbox actions change labels; scanning alone does not move mail. Undo is limited to the session and cannot guarantee reversal after concurrent Gmail changes.

Sharing an Inbox Wrapped image is optional and user-directed. Its generated card uses aggregate progress rather than mailbox content. The recipient service you choose handles the image under its own policy.

If you confirm an unsubscribe action, the app opens the sender’s external website. That website handles your visit under its own privacy practices.

Support messages

Support messages contain whatever you choose to send. Abhirup Banerjee handles them through Google Workspace to respond to support and privacy requests. Do not include passwords, authorization tokens or private email contents.

Release disclosures still under review

The included Google Sign-In privacy manifest declares linked data for app functionality and analytics. Manifest declarations describe SDK disclosures, not verified observations of every data flow in this app. Final runtime and signed archive review remain pending.

The shipped version must be checked for diagnostics, analytics, crash reporting and dependency data flows before final App Store privacy answers are submitted. The absence of our own backend alone does not establish “no data collected.”

For final publication, the app’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Compliance must be reviewed against the final shipped behavior.
